This is rather amusing. People rush out to buy cheesy $30 iPhone Bumpers that cost .10 to make or some other overpriced case and have no issue. Many even buy multiples before they decide on one.
But ATT raises the cost of a early upgrade phone by $50 and people go bonkers.
1) It's an early upgrade. Do you really need to upgrade your phone sooner than every 18 months? If you do, that is your decision as a consumer. You certainly have no God given right to a cheap upgrade though. Stop whining.
2) Inflation is here. Deal with it. Have you been to the grocery store lately? It's the price we pay when the Fed prints money like Chinese knock-offs.
3) Last I checked the government enacts laws regarding the cell phone industry and also regulates the frequencies. There has never been anything stopping either congress or the executive branch or independent commissions from imposing rules to require cellcos to unlock phones after x months of service or to require them to sell unlocked phones.

So true.
People sure do whine a lot.

Yeah I know Apple's policy on low pricing to sell hardware and I think it's brilliant. I don't know why they drop the software after a while though, discontinuing Shake didn't make any sense.
I'm going to speculate about what happened. When Jobs brought Pixar to Disney and joined their board of directors, he was thinking that would be a good fit for the Macpro line of computers and software. It probably bothered him that Pixar (and Disney) were not using Apple computers and software to crunch all of those pixels. I'm pretty sure he saw that as an opportunity to get Apple further into that market.
Then along comes the success of iPhone and consumer level products that began to consume most of Apple resources. It was a fairly fresh market with much potential for massive profits. Shortly after that, Apple Computer changed it's name to just "Apple" and then diverted most of it's attention towards the market that we see today. Apple sold off any professional applications that they deemed to niche or required extensive resources to develop. I'm sure they hung onto FCS simply because there was some profit, and to feed Steve's ego. However, they haven't been that motivated to keep it on the forefront because they didn't have the resources, nor the motivation.
I'm pretty sure that if you were to ask most of the people on the board of directors at Apple if they should keep the professional line, I'm sure that most of them would say no. The money is not in that sector compared to consumer devices and content delivery. As each day goes by, the Mac professional line of computers and software are becoming more and more a niche product and I think that Apple will eventually discontinue them and become solely a consumer product company. They will make devices for the everyday consumer and sell/rent/commission content to deliver to those devices. It's a multi-billion dollar industry that is only going to get bigger. The professional line is not close to being as profitable and it takes a lot of resources to stay current. My guess is that it will be phased out over the next 5 years. How? By slowing down the updates until the pros migrate to other systems. Eventually, Apple will declare the market dead and stop production. By then, no one will care. But don't worry, you'll have a really cool iPhone and still be able to buy an iMac.

So you enjoy watching them abuse other people, but since it's not you then it's ok?
What kind of a sick attitude is that? You think it's a good thing that they mistreat their readers? Why? Is it just funny to you or something?
You are obviously missing the point. Apple's new subscription model is preventing choice from coming to it's customers. How is that not a bad thing?

100% agree macs do not belong to ENTERPRISE environment.
i was working as IT admin in the past in EU, all Windows, UNIX, Linux.
however, as a personal computer it blows away the XP and W7. If personal prefers it, MACs should be allowed as clients on Windows based Enterprise networks if required. Creative dept. for example.
PROS:
• ease of use
• FW and TARGET disc mode features.
• Easy of grabbing a cropped screenshot
• Some smart application design, ease of sharing files, great solid networking (10.6.5)
• expose!
• great dashboard design
• best straigtforward backup system built into the OS
• COLOR coding files and folders !!!
• and other i cannot thing of right now
• ctrl + alt + apple +8
CONS:
• HW price
• short lived OSX support
as personal computer it's a better choice for me, i switched in 2005 and never looked back. at Work we have W7 and MAC mini server for file sharing. BUT again, it's not for Enterprise solution, no doubt about it.

Inspired by the new Tron Legacy Trailer and all the stuff out of comic-con. Can't wait for this movie!
Excellent desktop; cannot wait either!!! I was a young pup when the first debuted and I cannot tell you the last time I was excited to see a movie as much since then. Don't like how the music changed though; liked the original trailer with the hype techno!!

10 months later I really think people should wait a couple of months and buy the iPhone 5 in white... Maybe the improvements aren't big but it still is a new gen...
On the other hand, if you need a new phone and buy now (vs. waiting until Sept.) it gives you a 4-5 month head-start on getting your 2-year contract finished.
That's 4-5 months sooner you can get an iPhone 6, hopefully with real improvements (LTE, NFC, a durable form factor), instead of being stuck with a marginal speed bump and nothing more.

TJ Maxx isn't selling them at a loss. TJ Maxx however is diluting the perceived value of the iPad. That's something all manufacturers -- not just Apple -- look to protect.
It's exactly why Amazon forces you to put some things in your cart to see the price. Amazon can't advertise a product below Price X, according to their agreement with the manufacturer. If they did, Amazon would be diluting the perceived market value of the product, which would force other resellers to follow suit. This forces the market price lower, and then resellers start putting pressure on the manufacturer to lower THEIR price (to resellers) so the retailers/resellers can maintain healthier margins.
It turns into a race towards the bottom, where a product gets commoditized. Manufacturers try to avoid that at all costs, because they only have a few products where they can sell at a high-margin or premium, for so long, before competition creates a pressure to drive the price down.

I'm from the UK, where capital punishement was abolished in 1969. Here in the UK we would love capital punishement to be reintroduced, a life for a life as they sayDon't include me. Your reasoning is as confused as your conclusion. There is absolutely no logic in maintaining that killing is wrong and then appealing to that principle to justify more killing.

I think they will use the new 256-Bit advanced vector extensions (256-Bit AVX) of the Sandy Bridge processors. It makes sense, because GPU-based solutions like Badaboom do not reach the same quality as CPU-based solutions. The AVX are ideal for video codecs, filters an so on.
Yeah, that means we will see new Pro hardware from Apple "early next year". And no, you will not see LP in Macs until 2015.

Is the photo black & white or color?
'Cause if it's color, that's not such a bad deal.
Get it framed and everything for less than $500. out the door.

sounds like good news to me. not really big features, but features nonetheless.
looking forward to more new features from Leopard:cool:
Features for the sake of features does not impress me. Unless there is some hidden bombshell of a feature in Leopard it's looking more and more likely I won't be upgrading. I'm still holding out hope for a bombshell at MWSF this January. Vista will be all but released. Apple's excuses for not announcing will have dried up and it will be put up or shut up time. Come on jobs put your code where your mouth is.
